Here’s what researchers found when they looked at how bedtime affects heart health

For this study, we examined the association between bedtime and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk using wrist-worn accelerometer data from 103,712 participants for 7 days to record bedtime and waketime, and followed up for an average of 5.7 years to document CVD events.

Study results

1. Going to bed between 10:00 PM and 10:59 PM is associated with the lowest CVD risk.

2. Going to bed before 10:00 PM increases the risk of cardiovascular disease by 24%.

3. Going to bed between 11:00 PM and 11:59 PM has a 12% increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

4. Going to bed after midnight increases the risk of cardiovascular disease by 25%.

5. This relationship was more pronounced in women, with men only showing an increased risk for going to bed before 10:00 p.m.

This study suggests that bedtime may affect the risk of cardiovascular disease, especially in women. Going to bed between 10:00 p.m. and 10:59 p.m. may be the most appropriate time to reduce this risk.
